I am a medical doctor and senior scientist in the Defense and Veterans Center for Integrative Pain Management (DVCIPM) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, employed by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. I have designed and implemented clinical studies investigating novel therapies and personalized medicine approaches in pain management, complimentary integrative medical modalities for acute and chronic pain, and the utility of bi-directional telehealth communication apps for patient follow-up. I have also directed the development and execution of animal studies related to patient safety in anesthesiology, anesthesia and analgesia, local anesthetic systemic toxicity, malignant hyperthermia and other anesthesia and analgesia related safety issues. Current collaborations also include studies to improve resuscitative endovascular ballon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA), development of a self-deploying shape memory polymer endotracheal tube, and the application of transcranial neurostimulation to improve cognitive outcomes after traumatic brain injury.
