Captain Sarah Juhasz

 

Capt Sarah A. Juhasz is the Element Chief for the Critical Care Unit in the 959th Inpatient Operations Squadron (IPTS) at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) - Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She is the Nursing subject matter expert for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and has helped pioneer the first Department of Defense (DoD) ECMO expansion fostering a civilian/military relationship while serving at BAMC.

Capt Juhasz received a direct commission in 2021 as a Critical Care Nurse at the DoD’s only Level I Trauma Center. She orchestrated a Pentagon ECMO brief for the Air Force Surgeon General, and taught the first ECMO course to Special Operations Surgical Team (SOST) members for Austere Environment capabilities. Capt Juhasz has narrated an Air Force ECMO Video highlighting Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) capabilities amplifying global mission insight. Prior to her current position, Capt Juhasz had an astounding 10-year civilian nursing career specializing in Pediatric Critical Care.

Capt Juhasz has assisted with 15 ECMO/COVID-19 CONUS relief missions, directed care for over 1,000 patients, and managed 193 ECMO patients. Additionally, Capt Juhasz served as a control trainer for the Guardian Response exercise boosting emergency readiness for 5.2K joint personnel. She drove a NATO skills fair which educated 110 USAFE joint personnel from 14 host nations boosting AFMS global readiness. Recently, she taught an advanced trauma curriculum for a Global Health Engagement in the United Arab Emirates bolstering interoperability and enhancing foreign relations aiding the US Security Cooperation Plan initiative to strengthen AOR partnership. Capt Juhasz deployed on a Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT) to Ramstein Air Base, Germany and supported 13 CCATT missions throughout Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Capt Juhasz volunteers her time at the JBSA Base Honor Guard where she is the sole officer taking on this endeavor. She has performed 60 funerals while leading and mentoring over 180 ceremonial guardsman.
