About Colonel (Doctor) David G. McLeod, M.D., J.D., US Army (Ret.) (1935 - 2020)
As a visionary leader in the field of urology, Dr. McLeod ushered in a new era of prostate cancer research, combining molecular biology and clinical research at a time when there was increasing focus and controversy over prostate cancer’s optimal treatment. A highly decorated military surgeon, his distinguished career included service in both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army.
Prior to Dr. McLeod’s tenure at CPDR, he was the Program Director in Urology and the Chief of Urologic Oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center; Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences; and Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery (Urology) at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. McLeod’s published work appeared in major medical journals, including Urology, the Journal of Urology, the Journal of Urologic Oncology, and the Journal of Cancer. His contributions included co-authoring multiple chapters and publications on urologic oncology, educating his students and advancing the field of research.
Dr. McLeod earned his Bachelor’s and Medical Doctorate from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He also earned a Juris Doctorate from Northern Virginia Law School and was a member of the DC Bar and The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia. He was a long-time member of the Society of Urologic Oncology and numerous other professional societies, serving at one point as President of the American Foundation of Urologic Disease and President of the Mid-Atlantic Section of the American Urologic Association.
