Captain John Iskander

Captain John Iskander MD MPH most recently served as Chief of the Immunization Healthcare Division for the Defense Health Agency, and previously was Chief of Preventive Medicine and Population Health for the United States Coast Guard. A board-certified pediatrician, he has served on active duty with the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) since 2001. As a USPHS officer he has deployed domestically and internationally in response to outbreaks of anthrax, mpox, Ebolavirus, cholera, Zika virus, polio, and COVID-19. He holds degrees from the University of Chicago, Tulane University School of Medicine, and the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and teaches medical students as an Adjunct Professor of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Captain Iskander has received the Outstanding Service Medal of the US Public Health Service and the Meritorious Service Medal of the Coast Guard.
